NY/DC Trip - Day 4, Part 1

Tuesday, November 11th - Veterans Day.

I don't remember what time I got up on this morning, but it was well before the 8am alarm went off.

After everyone was up and ready, we walked up 7th Avenue to Europa Cafe for breakfast.  I ordered an Europa omelet with egg, tomato, cheese, and onion, a side of diced potatoes, and orange juice.

The Europa omelet may not look that appetizing in this photo, but it was delicious
Hi Mom!
We walked from the cafe to Rockefeller Center to go to Top of the Rock, the 70th floor observation deck at the top of Rockefeller Center.  Our CityPass tickets allowed us to skip the regular line and get in a short line to get our timed entry ticket to the top.  We had a short wait, then got to the front of the line at 10:30.  We were able to go right up at 10:35am vs. having to come back at a later time.

On our way to Top of the Rock

We took out time taking in the views, then headed back down to street level.

The Empire State Building as seen from Top of the Rock
The view downtown, looking toward the Statue of Liberty
The morning was overcast, but the view was still incredible.  Looking out over Central Park toward Harlem.
A wider shot
I don't know didn't know what this building being built is, but it is so tall.  I just looked this up:  it's 432 Park Avenue, a residential building set to be 100 feet taller than the Empire State Building when it's completed.  Allegedly it's about 1/3 sold already, but there's still opportunities if you want to reserve your luxury condo/apartment/penthouse now - prices start at $16,950,000 and go up to $82,000,000 for a whole floor.
Yes, you heard that right.  If you want a 3 bedroom 3 bathroom, 2,633 sq. ft. condo at an elevation of 1,085', it will cost you $21,750,000.00.
It will be taller than that building there.

I like how the safety glass seems to disappear in the this photo with the Chrysler Building in the background
The sun decided to peek out for a bit

At the Rockefeller Center station we took the D train down to the 35th Street - Herald Square station.  Our destination:  The Empire State Building.
